Tête des Hommes, from the Lac Muffé car park
Introduction
The itinerary is to be done with sure-footed snow, with some steep sections. The final crest leading to the summit, although requiring some attention if done on skis, is very scenic
.Description
Follow the road to Dondena for a short distance until the last hairpin bend, then take a small road on the right that leads to some houses. Climb up for a stretch and then move slightly to the left, entering the little valley that descends from Lake Muffé. Follow it for a stretch until you reach a hollow at about 2,000 m, from where you should head sharply to the left and with a long, slightly uphill halfway stretch, you will reach Alpe Vernouille (2,119 m). From the huts, go up the beautiful slopes until you enter a steep little valley (to be walked carefully in case of unstable snow). Continue along less steep slopes to a col. With a last traverse (watch out for wind slabs to the left), you reach the crest of the Tête des Hommes just west of the Torretta. Climb a steeper slope to the left to reach the ridge and follow it to a second col. A steeper section allows you to reach a basin and, continuing along the wide ridge, the summit.
