Pollux, from the Ayas Guide Refuge
Introduction
Characteristic mountain rising isolated in the centre of the glacial amphitheatre that closes the Val d'Ayas to the north, located between the Black Rock and the Castor
.Description
From the hut, go up the glacier following the track that leads to the nearby Castore and, abandoning the tracks that lead to its north-west face, head for the Colle di Verra: a depression between the latter's north-west ridge and the Polluce. Just before reaching the col, head south-east, aiming for the rocky rampart (there are usually tracks present). One climbs up some scree without difficulty to reach a large and evident cleft equipped with fixed ropes, about fifty metres or so high, reaching a col on the crest, which from here becomes snow-covered. From here, climb up the obvious and easy ridge to the summit 4091m).
The descent is along the ascent route.
