Description

Ascent by shuttle bus to Malga Ra Stua 1668 m., a wide, slightly uphill dirt track leads to Campo Croce 1758 m. (marker 6) (time 0.20 hours) where the Boite torrent, which gives its name to the valley where Cortina d'Ampezzo is located, has its source. Having crossed the torrent on a small bridge, the Austrian wartime cartroad (signpost 9) climbs into the woods with steep hairpin bends. At the edge of the forest (2015 m), the path runs level for a long stretch. Then it slowly descends into the Alpe di Fodara Vedla at a picturesque village of alpine pastures and tabiĂ , where the hut is located. A chapel dedicated to St Antony, the patron saint of animals, stands between the alpine pastures, where there are numerous grazing cows. It was built in 1947 by the owner of the refuge. The route crosses the Ampezzo Dolomites Nature Park and the Fanes Sennes and Braies Nature Park. At the beginning of the Fanes Park, you can see the Lago de Fodara (Rudo de Sote) dry in July, where the ascent to the LavinĂłres (Sas dla Para) begins. Between the borders of the two parks is a narrow strip of no-man's land, where competitions of skill were once held between the Ampezzo and Marebba people to change the boundaries.
