Laures Lakes, from Grand Brissogne
Introduction
Beautiful but strenuous excursion into the Laures valley. Beautiful panorama of Monte Emilius and the Laures glacier. The characteristics of the place make it suitable for astronomical observation and therefore, also taking into account the length of the route, we recommend spending a night at the 'belle etoile' watching for shooting stars.
Description
At Grand Brissogne turn left and walk along a flat stretch of about 50m, then turn right and continue uphill for about 300m. Here you come to a dirt road that branches off to the left. Leave the car, and after about 40 minutes' walk along the dirt road, you reach the square where the farmstead ends. Here, flanking a stone farmhouse, you take the path, which climbs up through the forest "zigzagging", crossing the stream several times with suggestive little bridges. You then reach the Tramail hut (1950m, ). Behind it, there is a beautiful barn with a large stone vault. The ascent continues to "zigzag" until the forest begins to thin out (2300m-2400m). Here you begin to see the little chapel (2613m) overlooking the pass. After a stretch of exposed mule track, we finally reach the pass (and the end of our exertions). Once over the pass, you descend for about 50m to reach the lower lake. Here you can admire the lake's wonderful shades of blue. Nearby is the Ménabréaz refuge and there is also a convenient place to put up your tent. After a 20-minute walk along the same path, you will reach Lago Lungo (2632m). Continuing for another 40min, we finally reach the end of our hike, the Lago Superiore. The view is exceptional, you can admire Mount Emilius in all its majesty along with the Laures glacier.
