Description

Intro Pleasant hike leading to three lakes on Swiss territory, which are located on an excellent panoramic balcony over the Mont Blanc massif with beautiful views of Grand Jorasse and Mont Dolent. Description From the Great Saint Bernard pass, take path 13A, which runs along the track of the ancient Roman road that climbed up to the pass, pass next to the statue of Saint Bernard and descend until you cross the main road, cross it and take the path again, which descends slightly from the carriageway. In 5 minutes, you come to a fork in the road, leave the path that descends to the valley on the left and continue on the level until you cross the road again to the pass, pass close to the Baou mountain pasture, where you then begin to climb along the impluvium. After ascending the valley, you come to a fork where you keep to the right (signpost 13A) and enter an amphitheatre enclosed by Mount Fourchon, Pointe de Drone and Grand Chenalette. Proceed for a short stretch at a low gradient before quickly gaining altitude again along the path, which in a series of twists and turns leads to the detrital valley below the Fenetre pass. By now in view of the pass, characterised by widespread outcrops of limestone rocks behind us, the view opens out onto the distant glaciers of the Gran Paradiso, the Grand Nomeon, the Ciarforon and the becca di Monciair. Having crossed the pass, we begin to descend towards the lakes, with views opening up, first of Mont dolent and progressively of Grand Jorasse (north face) and Mont Blanc.
