Introduction

The Bietti - Buzzi Refuge can be reached by climbing up from Varenna or from the Valsassina, arriving at Esino Lario - Cainallo. From here, go up to the Vò di Moncodeno alp (1436 metres above sea level) where you can leave your car. From the car park, follow trail no. 25 to Rifugi Bietti - Bogani; at the crossroads of Bocchetta di Prada, follow trail no. 24 which leads to the Bietti-Buzzi refuge. Along the route, you will come across a pretty little church surrounded by green beech trees, dedicated to the 89th Poletti Brigade, and from there you will reach the famous Porta di Prada. A little further on, in breathtaking scenery, we reach the Releccio amphitheatre, where in the centre, in a dominant position, is the refuge. Once at the refuge, the view will sweep from the Swiss Alps of the Oberland, to the majestic Monterosa, to Monviso and on to the expanse of the Po Valley. Description

The Bietti-Buzzi hut, recently restored and reopened to the public, is the starting point for climbs of various levels that take you to the summit of the Brioschi hut, via the Canale Guzzi (which leads to the Piancaformia Ridge), an easy climb (about 1.30 h); the Caminetto (about 1.30 h of medium difficulty) and via the Ferrata dei Carbonari (about 3 hours and of greater difficulty). Near the hut are also the most famous historical climbing routes, such as those of Sasso Cavallo, Sasso dei Carbonari, as well as the Falesie della cresta di Pancaformia, which have just been opened and equipped by young mountaineers! For the less daredevils who do not wish to venture on the Grigne paths, it is instead possible to see in comfort a large quantity of game, which roam freely around the Bietti-Buzzi refuge: ibexes, chamois and the black grouse. It is also easy to forget the excellent cuisine that the refuge offers: from typical local dishes, to pizzoccheri cheese and cheeses, to polenta accompanied by tasty meat dishes!..... (don't forget the fabulous homemade cakes prepared every day!)
