Introduction

Villa del Bosco (Vila dël Bòsch in Piedmontese) is a municipality nestled in the Biella foothills, spreading over land rich in vegetation, so much so as to suggest the reference to 'forest' in the place name. Located in the upper basin of the Rovasenda stream, its territory includes the main town and the hamlet of Ferracane, as well as a small administrative island, Orbello, which can only be reached by crossing Sostegno.

Description

The history of this village has its roots in the 15th century, when a castle built on a hill overlooking the village is documented. This castle, privately owned, bears witness to successive feuds, from the Langosco to the Avogadro and the Lords of Buronzo. The parish church of San Lorenzo was erected independently in the 16th century, although it maintained a link with nearby Sostegno until that time. Nearby there are also monumental trees of considerable size, including a centuries-old chestnut tree, living symbols of the link with the local nature.

The economy of the municipality has always been anchored to agriculture: cereals, orchards and, in particular, vineyards destined for the production of Coste del Sesia DOC wine, an important and typical territorial expression of this part of the Biellese.

The community preserves a cultural fabric linked to rural traditions. There is also a small museum dedicated to agricultural tools and ancient domestic objects, housed in the hamlet of Ferracane, which offers a valuable insight into rural life in the past.

For those who enjoy walking through places steeped in history, the view of the hamlet from the top of the hill covered in vegetation is a suggestive backdrop. The central monuments - the church and the castle - stand out among the greenery, vestiges of a past deeply rooted in the land.
