Roppolo

Introduction

Roppolo is a small municipality located in the province of Biella, Piedmont, on the border with the province of Vercelli. Immersed in an area of great natural beauty, the town overlooks the western shore of Lake Viverone, one of the most important bodies of water in the region, known for its lush flora and fauna and for being a destination for tourists who love relaxation and outdoor activities.

Description

The village of Roppolo is also famous for its imposing medieval castle, which dominates the surrounding landscape from the top of a hill. The Castle of Roppolo, dating back to the 9th century, is a symbol of the village's history and has undergone numerous modifications over the centuries. Today, it is a private residence, but part of it can be visited and houses a fine wine shop that celebrates local wines, in particular Erbaluce di Caluso, a typical white wine of the area.

The territory of Roppolo is characterised by gently rolling hills planted with vineyards, which are part of the Strada del Vino di Erbaluce, a food and wine itinerary that attracts wine enthusiasts from all over Italy. Agriculture, particularly viticulture, is in fact one of the municipality's main economic resources, thanks to the production of nationally recognised quality wines.

From a historical and cultural point of view, Roppolo is a place full of charm, where time seems to stand still. Strolling through its streets, one can discover ancient churches such as the Parish Church of San Michele, historic buildings and small picturesque corners that preserve the authenticity and tranquillity typical of Piedmontese villages. 

Thanks to its strategic position between Biella and Canavese, Roppolo is an excellent starting point for nature and cultural excursions, as well as for visiting nearby Lake Viverone, which offers sporting activities such as sailing, fishing and rowing.
