.

Description

In the heart of an alpine valley, Bellino covers an area of 62.07 km² at an average altitude of 1,572 m above sea level, with a very dense presence of mountains, forests and pastures. Its hamlets - including Celle, Chiesa, Fontanile, Ribiera and Pleyne - display the local architecture in stone and wood, typical of the alpine environment.

With a very small population - just 100 inhabitants as of 1 January 2025, the so-called Bellinesi - and a density of about 2 inhabitants per km², Bellino retains an atmosphere of calm and ancient rhythms.

Historically, its origins date back to traditional alpine settlements; over the years it was the scene of clashes such as the historic battle between the Savoy and Franco-Spanish armies in the surrounding mountains, including the Pelvo d'Elva.

The economy is typically mountainous: a mix of pastoralism, mountain agriculture and, today increasingly, hiking and cultural tourism. Bellino's special feature is its rich collection of working sundials, no less than 34 restored and others made from scratch, dating from the period between 1734 and 1934. These sundials enrich the hamlet with a rare historical and scientific charm.

In addition, the Museum of Time and Sundials, established in the hamlet of Celle, and a hobbyist Astronomical Observatory complete the cultural framework, offering unique experiences related to time measurement and stargazing.

Walking through the hamlets, entering the woods, following the marked trails (such as the GTA - Grande Traversata delle Alpi) means experiencing the Alpine landscape in an authentic way, amidst panoramic views, rural hamlets and wild nature.
