Description
The territory of Agliè stretches across rolling hills and wide rural landscapes, at about 315 metres above sea level. Set in a natural context characterised by rich vegetation and vineyards, the municipality is located a short distance from the alpine reliefs of Canavese, offering a view that sweeps from the hills to the surrounding mountains. The presence of large parks, historic gardens and trails makes it a perfect place for those seeking tranquillity and contact with nature.
In terms of history, Agliè's roots date back to Roman times, when the site was known as Alladium. In the Middle Ages, the village developed around the castle, becoming an important feud under the Counts of San Martino di Rivarolo and Agliè. During the 14th century, Agliè was the scene of battles between Guelphs and Ghibellines, suffering invasions and devastation, but it was also the protagonist of the pacification brought about by the Savoy in 1391. In later times, the castle was transformed into a sumptuous residence, attracting nobles and prominent personalities.
The local economy has always found a solid base in agriculture, particularly in the cultivation of cereals, fodder and vines. In the past, Agliè was a centre of industrial importance thanks to the presence of a silk factory, which employed numerous workers, particularly women, contributing to the economic development of the area.
