Access

At the Châtillon Saint-Vincent exit of the A5 motorway, turn right towards Saint-Vincent, at the traffic lights go straight on passing under the state road and after 1.5 km turn left following the signs for Colle di Joux and Emarèse. At 11 km from the tollbooth, shortly after the Salirod antennae, turn right for Erèsaz and descend to the town hall where you can leave your car: from the car park proceed on foot for a few dozen metres.

Introduction

The church is located at the entrance to the hamlet of Erésaz. The original chapel, dedicated to Saint Roch, was presumably built in the early 1700s, as the first writing mentioning it dates back to a pastoral visit in 1713.

Description

Between 1978 and 1979, an extension was built by surveyor Villettaz, which involved the demolition of the original choir. The bell tower was also destroyed in order to be completely rebuilt; the renovated church was dedicated not only to Saint Roch, but also to the Holy Family and the Madonna delle Nevi. The project was born at the behest of Mrs. Bonis Trèves Maria, who took a long time to obtain permission from the Valle d'Aosta Region (which later also donated a substantial contribution for the realisation of the work). She wanted to realise the dream of her uncle, Abbé Trèves, who had always nurtured the desire to create a shrine dedicated to the Holy Family in Emarèse.
Once the extension was completed, Abbé Trèves' remains were transported from the Excenex cemetery to Erésaz to be interred under the altar of the little church.
