Introduction
The "Ai Fop" bivouac is located in the Alpe delle Foppe, a picturesque alpine pasture in the Upper Postalesio Valley, more precisely in the Caldenno Valley, in the municipality of Berbenno di Valtellina. Despite its location in a hidden basin, accessibility is surprisingly simple, with an easy, well-marked path starting from the Pra Isio car park. The route, which alternates between stretches on a carriage track and paths, takes about an hour and forty minutes to walk, offering splendid views of the gentle rises typical of the area during the ascent.
Description
This mountain pasture, although not marked on the main topographical maps, extends to an altitude of around 2,200 metres and offers magnificent views of the Orobic chain, making it a fascinating destination for hikers of all levels. From here, it is possible to reach Poggio del Cavallo (2,557m) without any particular difficulty, an extraordinarily beautiful vantage point that connects the Caldenno, Finale and Upper Val Vignone valleys.
For more experienced hikers, the Baric-Caldenno ridge offers the opportunity to climb to Pizzo Bello (2,748m) or to follow a circular route that touches Alpe Baric and ends again at Pra Isio. The entire circular route can be completed in about six or seven hours, providing breathtaking experiences far off the beaten track.
The Alpe delle Foppe is a place that combines scenic beauty with relative ease of access, making it a perfect destination for those seeking a hike immersed in the wilderness, but not particularly demanding.
