On 28 January 1951, Toni Valeruz – a ski mountaineer, mountaineer and Trentino mountain guide – was born in Alba di Canazei (Trentino), known for having been one of the leading figures in extreme skiing between the 1970s and 1990s. Among his feats, which bordered on the impossible, were the descents of the east face of the Matterhorn, the north face of the Lyskamm and the north-east face of the Eiger.
