On 17 September 1961, Nives Meroi was born in Bonate Sotto (Bergamo), a mountaineer renowned for having climbed, from 1998 to the present day, 13 of the 14 eight-thousanders, all without the use of supplementary oxygen. She is married to Romeo Benet, with whom she has shared many ascents. The only eight-thousander still missing from her list is Annapurna, which she has already attempted during her mountaineering career.
