On 30 October 1986, a Japanese expedition reached the summit of Gyala Peri (7,294 m) in the Nyenchen Tanglha Shan massif for the first time. The expedition, comprising Kazuo Tobita, Yoshio Ogata, Takeshi Ohta, Yasuhiro Hashimoto, Hirotaka Imamura and Takuo Fujiwara, reached the summit via the south ridge after a month and a half of “siege” on the summit.
