Trail and Jambon alla brace: Saint-Oyen is back in the spotlight

On Saturday 2 August, the races on the paths between Fallère and Chaligne

The paths leading to the Fallère and Chaligne refuges are among the most trodden by hikers who choose the Aosta Valley as their summer holiday destination. And every two years they are also the scene of an ultratrail race that offers an unparalleled panorama of the Vallée's four four-thousand-metre peaks.  After a year's absence, due to the biennial formula, on Saturday 2 August there will be a return to running around the Fallère, with two routes that wink at both the more trained athletes and those who want to run a less demanding distance.

Standing firmly in place is the 61-kilometre race, a tough and demanding test, which will start at 5 a.m. from Saint-Oyen and which the fastest will cover in around seven hours. Two years ago it was Simone Corsini and Franco Collé who won, arriving together at the finish line. This is one of the longest races to be organised in the Aosta Valley, with a positive altitude difference of 5,000 metres and involving no less than nine municipalities: Aosta, Avise, Gignod, Saint-Pierre, Sarre, Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses, Saint-Oyen, Saint-Nicolas and Etroubles. The Tour du Fallère will start at 8 a.m., again from the Saint-Oyen sports field, the hub of the event and the festival of the typical barbecued jambon. Participants can decide to tackle the 39 kilometres (2,700 metres D+) individually or team up with two companions, handing over the baton at the Chaligne refuge and the Fallère refuge. A relay formula already adopted in the past and appreciated by the athletes. Athletes from Belgium, France, Sweden, Great Britain, Holland, Spain and the Czech Republic, as well as Italy, are expected to take part in the event. Online registration, on the irunning.it website, will close on 30 July and it will not be possible to register on site. The trials are included in the Fisky calendar and require membership of the federation, which can be done at the same time as registration, for an additional 5 euros. The Tour du Fallère, in its individual version only, will also award points for the Tour Trail Valle d'Aosta, the regional circuit that opened in Verrès in March and continued in Arnad and Morgex. The sports event is part of the festival dedicated to Aosta Valley cooked ham, which will start on Friday 1 and end on Sunday 3 August. A culinary event celebrating its 45th edition.
